2014 was a big leap for me. In May I got the call to be a full-time photo intern at the Lincoln Journal Star. My skills as a daily photojournalist had become rusty, I still lacked some essential gear, and I had forgotten techniques that had once been so deeply engrained in my mind. But I was given a chance to improve and that was something I couldn’t pass up. So, I packed up my Jeep and traveled 1,500 miles to a place I honestly never imagined I would be- Nebraska.
The next 9 months were some of the craziest and most rewarding of my life. A lot of early mornings and long days, followed by earlier mornings and even later nights, and I loved every minute of it. I had the privilege to work in a newsroom filled with talented professionals and couldn’t be more grateful for their guidance (and especially their patience) throughout the entirety of my time there. I was immersed every day in the photography of an excellent photo staff, whose diverse talents and individual areas of expertise helped hone my storytelling abilities and refine my own style.
It’s been a fun ride and so, here are some of my favorite moments. If you like the photos hit the Enjoy button at the bottom of the page or feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you think, thanks!
